Truls Mørk

Truls Mørk studied with the renowned cellists Frans Helmerson and Natalia Shakhovskaya. Throughout his extensive career, which launched with a qualification for the finals of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1982, he has worked with major orchestras such as Philharmonia Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He has given numerous recitals in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. He was the founder and, for thirteen years, the director of the Stavanger Chamber Music Festival. His extensive discography includes various CDs awarded with Gramophone, Grammy, Midem, and ECHO Klassik awards, and covers almost all major cello concertos, as well as Bach’s cello suites. Truls Mørk is an important champion of contemporary repertoire. He has given over 30 world premieres for works by Penderecki, Thoresen, and Rautavaara, among others.
