BartolomeyBittmann

Ensemble

The Austrian duo of Matthias Bartolomey on the cello and Klemens Bittman on violin and mandola has been an absolute audience favourite since their first performance at the Cello Biënnale. Classically trained, they are masters of improvisation and effortlessly connect the most different music genres – from jazz to rock. Their energy, flawlessness, and tender cantilenas never fail to impress. For the past ten years, they have continuously worked on a unique repertoire, earning them the nickname ‘progressive strings Viennna’. They are always searching for the acoustic essence of their instruments, without falling back on electronics or effects, and they take the time to do it properly. Their CD Zehn was a celebration of their ten-year anniversary as an ensemble. It contains new pieces, most of them composed during the Covid lockdown.
