Gordan Nikolić

Violin and leader

After completing his preliminary studies in Serbia, Gordan Nikolić (Brus, Serbia, 1968) studied at the Basel Academy of Music with Jean-Jacques Kantorow. He also received lessons from Walter Levin, Hans Werner Henze, Witold Lutosławski, and György Kurtág. 

He was the winner of various international competitions, such as the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition and the Paganini Competition. He was the concertmaster of the London Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2017.

He has been the musical director and concertmaster of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra since 2004. In recent years, Nikolić has performed as a guest concertmaster with orchestras such as Manchester Camerata, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Since 2007, he has been the artistic director of BandArt, an orchestra based in Spain which focuses on community engagement. In addition to his activities as a violinist and orchestra leader, Nikolić is a professor at the Conservatoire in Paris, the University of Music in Saarbrücken, and Codarts in Rotterdam. He plays a Lorenzo Storioni violin from 1794.
