In the first edition of CELLOFEST in 2018, Marie Spaemann stole the show with her intimate pop songs combining jazz, soul and a dash of classical. Now she returns together with the Austrian accordionist Christian Bakanic, who adds tango nuevo and European folk to the mix of styles.

Spaemann and Bakanic constantly explore the possibilities of their instruments. Groovy bass lines and percussion elements alternate with Bakanic’s improvisations and Marie Spaemann’s playing.

Christian Bakanic

Christian Bakanic (Austria, 1980) studied folk music and accordeon at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz with Janne Rättyä, James Crabb, and Geir Draugsvoll. He has won various accordion competitions and is a champion of the continuous innovation of accordeon technique, playing every possible genre in which the accordion can be heard. Bakanic plays classical music, jazz, Tango Nuevo, and new compositions including his own work. He is a part of various ensembles, one of which is a duo with cellist Marie Spaemann.
